Learning Resources / Learning curriculum
« on: March 13, 2020, 12:00:00 am »
Will there be a self learning curriculum for the CODA like what was available with the original mountain ocarinas? I see the units on the website but I'd love a book instead of using my phone or laptop.

Ugh, daily practice and finger middle finger just doesn't want to cooperate. Still trying. Thank goodness for the silencers.

I agree with Harp Player. I got the "Learning to play Mountain Ocarinas" curriculum and cds years ago with my MO. Written for beginners, but it's also a good refresher for those who arent.

Until reading this thread I didn't know there was any option besides treating them as 1 hole :)

Hi! Thanks for asking! I'm only having issues with getting clear accurate notes involving my middle and ring fingers, right hand. They have a twist and bend that make it difficult to cover the holes properly. It has improved a bit. Years ago when I started playing MOs I had similar issues but the way my fingers "fit" the CODA is different. It will take time. Karl even called to offer some tips :) Awesome to get help from The Man himself

General Discussion / Question from Coda Book
« on: August 01, 2019, 09:04:52 pm »
Hi all! I have a question regarding the Coda book. On page 6, Practice scales. In the 3rd excersize, 14th measure, last note. It is both D and E. This is the first time I've encountered this in ocarina. I went through my MO books too. It's also the only time I see it in the Coda Book. I'm not sure how to proceed.

I might have an issue that may or may not be workable. I have arthritis pretty bad in my hands. My fingers aren't all gnarly and twisted and I don't have problems with most instruments. When I bend my fingers they do twist a bit. It wasn't a problem with the MO's once I got used to them. My Coda came yesturday. It's wider and a bit thicker than the MO. I can't completely cover the holes on the left. One of my fingers doesn't even cover one at all unless I put it there with my other hand. I've been doing fingering, not blowing so I didn't notice till just now. If my 4 fingers are flat on the holes my thumb isnt. It causes pain for all 5 to be in their proper position. Hopefully I can adjust somehow but I'm afraid I'll never be able to cover 2 of those 5 holes

Any way these can back back ported to the original MO G ?  Love the portability.  Blowing out everyone's ears?  Not so much.
They can't be used on MOs but on the MO forum there's instructions to make one from a piece of a straw. I used my straw for years. Works great

What's a woot woot?
Similar to a "yeeehaa" or a "yipee"

I like the compass rose transposed over the planet.

My 3 cents:
It seems to be missing something musical, but I'm not exactly sure what.

Hi! You didn't happen to notice the symbol for the musical notation "coda". A Coda (and it's symbol) are on lots and lots of say that's a bit of something musical 😉

I know we all love to play actual songs, but warm up type excersizes are a must. A great practice piece (2 octave C Major Scale practice) is posted in the learning portion of the forum. I have never used multi chamber so my brain needs training for a smooth switch. The practice piece will help. I'd like to see more practice pieces like that.

I've had C and G MO's for years and love them. I also play flute and keyboards. I love how I could take the MOs anywhere and with my goofy modified straw for a silencer, I didn't bug anyone. Couldn't do that with my old trusty flute.
I've been reading about the CODA for a while. I get the emails. I couldn't decide if I should take on learning a new flute since I'm happy with my MOs. Well, I couldn't resist the draw of 2 octaves and a REAL silencer.
My Coda shipped today. I'm getting excited
